Academics: Singapore and China should open up new avenues for co-operation

SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan said that in the past 10 years, the appointment of senior leaders from both countries to the Joint Council for Bilateral Cooperation, responsible for developing bilateral ties, has successfully forged a closer relationship between the two countries. He added that as China becomes increasingly developed, Singapore will have less to offer China in terms of its development experience. He suggested that both countries could explore working on joint projects in other countries, such as replicating the successful experience of Tianjin Eco-city to develop green cities in countries like Myanmar and India. This will help bring Sino-Singapore cooperation to a new level.
