More than $1.02 billion disbursed to needy in past fiscal year; Singaporeans hope application criteria can be further relaxed

A group of SMU researchers studying the local poverty situation pointed out that having an official definition of the poverty line can help more Singaporeans realise the gravity of the situation. They also indicated that as data on people living in poverty is scant, this would prevent researchers from studying the problem effectively.
