Foreign workers in our midst!

SMU Assistant Professor of Sociology Nicholas Harrigan shared his views on whether the migrant workers in Singapore are being treated fairly. He said that there are a lot of things that are legal but unjust and that it would be much fairer if it were easier for workers to move between employers. Assistant Prof Harrigan is the chief investigator of a study with interviews involving more than 600 migrant workers in Singapore, mostly from India and Bangladesh. The findings which were released recently by SMU, indicated that the top three sources of emotional distress are workplace injuries, threat of forced early repatriation and scolding by employers.
