Despite taking different university routes, SMU law undergraduate Nadia Ahmad Samdin remained close friends with Gwyneth Teo from NUS. However, Nadia is the only Malay friend Gwyneth has, which is consistent with the findings of the race relations survey conducted by OnePeople.sg recently. Nadiah said that such a situation occurs in the majority of societies everywhere, and is not unique to Singapore. However, she hopes that more members of the Chinese community would be more proactive in their efforts to reach out and better understand the culture of ethnic minorities in Singapore.
