Can a foreigner who disrupts religious harmony be jailed?

SMU second-year student Liu Xuanyi won first prize at the final of the third Attorney-General’s Cup moot competition which was held on Friday at the NUS Moot Court. He was asked whether a foreigner who is overseas and publishes a blog entry that disrupts religious harmony in Singapore should be prosecuted. In response, Xuanyi called for a jail term during his oral submission to the panel of judges. He justified that the Internet postings were aimed at Singapore and, therefore, should come under the country's jurisdiction. “Preventing the publication of the remarks would be consistent with lawmakers' intentions to maintain racial and religious harmony in Singapore,” Xuanyi added.
