Average in studies but full of passion; “Ordinary” student awarded the Singapore-Industry Scholarship

First-year SMU information systems management undergraduate Li Li Kai was one of the 97 students awarded the Singapore-Industry Scholarship yesterday. Education Minister Mr Heng Swee Keat said that the award was given out with a clear goal in mind, which is to groom a core group of Singapore talent for our key economic and social sectors. Describing himself as an ordinary student who did not do well in his studies when he was younger, Mr Li said: “I have never dreamt of making it to university, let alone get a scholarship.” He will be joining PSA Corporation after his graduation. He said that the scholarship has allowed him to secure a job before graduation and plan his career path ahead with PSA. PSA said that Mr Li is full of passion and determination, qualities which the organisation constantly looks for in its pursuit of excellence in operations and services, and that led to him being selected.
