US under pressure shows confused leadership

In a commentary, SMU Adjunct Professor Joergen Oerstroem Moeller discussed whether the United States would be willing and capable of projecting power to remain at pole position, and of offering a social, political and economic model that attracts other countries. He noted that the US currently faces severe problems with both soft and hard power, and issues such as rising debt, persistent deficits and nuclear threats. In view of this, he concluded that the US’ virtual projection of power does not look so robust anymore, and that this may explain many of the current crises around the world that we might not have otherwise seen, given a stronger and more determined US.
