Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced the introduction of new housing grants to improve the affordability of 4-room flats. Eligible parties can receive up to $20,000 to help pay off the mortgage of a 4-room flat. This is an extension of the existing scheme which only covers the purchase of 2- and 3-room flats. SMU Associate Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan said that at a time when Singapore is facing changes, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong’s mention of the Government’s emphasis on building a just and equal society will lead citizens to develop a new way of thinking. With more efforts expended by the country, the cohesiveness of Singaporeans will be enhanced and the sense of belonging deepened.
