Lawyer and SMU professor appointed as judicial commissioner

SMU Professor of Law (Practice) George Wei, 58, and Edmund Leow, 50, a managing principal of law firm Baker & Mackenzie, have been appointed judicial commissioners of the High Court for a year. Mr Wei was sworn in on Thursday, and Mr Leow will commence his appointment on 1 October 2013.The Prime Minister's Office said that the appointment was made by President Tony Tan, who acted in his discretion and in concurrence with the advice of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Mr Wei graduated in 1984 with a Masters in Law from the University of London and he has published five books on copyright and intellectual property laws.
