Keeping alive the love of books

The book business in Singapore is failing at a rapid rate and this is worrying. Each time a bookshop closes because its sales cannot meet the rental, the nation's invisible store of cultural capital is diminished. One way to support this industry is to designate a building, for example the Bras Basah Complex or the former MPH building in Stamford Road, as venues where booksellers set up their businesses or book-related activities take place. The buildings’ proximity to SMU and three art colleges would make this proposition viable.
