Our “Bad” Side

SMU Associate Professor of Psychology Norman Li said that he is not really surprised by the recent Hello Kitty mania – the jostling for Hello Kitty plush dolls from McDonald’s – which also happened 13 years ago. He explained that, “It is basically a manifestation of strong demand. When people perceive strong demand, it is a principle called social proof. They see other people wanting something, and that increases their desire for the product.”
