Third law school part of multi-pronged approach

Responding to the letter “Focus on community law may backfire” (Jun 26), Ministry of Law’s Director (Corporate Communications Division) Ms Chong Wan Yieng acknowledged that while community law is not for everyone, the ministry’s intention is to focus on training individuals with a passion for community law, particularly in related fields such as social work. She pointed out that many existing lawyers who are graduates of SMU, NUS and overseas universities have found fulfilment in practising family and criminal law, among other areas, and that both SMU and NUS have started introducing work attachments with the Legal Aid Bureau and legal practitioners to promote their students’ interests in community law.
