Singapore will set up third law school to nurture community lawyers

A third law school will be set up to attract more people to join the profession, specialising in community law. While further details have not been announced, Law Minister K. Shanmugam said that the school will focus on admitting adults who are considering a mid-career change. It was noted that NUS would maintain its current intake of 250 students, and that SMU would increase its intake to 180 over three years. The 4th Committee on the Supply of Lawyers has also put forth several recommendations to increase the supply of lawyers in Singapore. This includes a review of how NUS and SMU law schools are being run, in areas such as the admission criteria, as well as the structure for internship programmes.
