A new chapter of “The Singapore Model”, Chinese officials come to Singapore to learn how to ensure liveability in the city upgrading process

In the past 20 years, many Chinese officials have come to Singapore to participate in short-term and long-term courses to learn how Singapore attracts foreign investment, develops industrial parks, and maintains a clean government. Although this trend has died down, the Party School of the Central Committee of CPC recently ran several articles in its “Learning Times” on “The Singapore Model”. In recent years, there has been continuous debate about China learning from Singapore, and whether Singapore still holds any learning value for China’s future development. Social issues management courses were popular among many Chinese officials who came to learn from Singapore. SMU has also signed an agreement with the Sichuan Administration Institute to provide short-term training for China’s middle-level government officials. SMU Vice President, Business Development and External Relations, Annie Koh said that one of the emphases of the training programme is social issue management. SMU hopes to share Singapore’s experience in establishing “public-private partnerships”.
