Are Singaporeans xenophobic?

SMU Associate Professor Kirpal Singh shared his thoughts about Singaporeans being in danger of becoming xenophobic in asserting the Singapore identity and talked about the better integration among Singaporeans, new citizens and foreigners in Singapore. On the policies to help Singaporeans accept the economic and social realities, Professor Kirpal said that we need to have more open and transparent discussions about some of these issues as they had been swept under the carpet for too long. He felt that it is good that these issues are now surfacing but is worried that the sudden rush of these issues surfacing all at once would cause a lot of undue stress. In minimising the worry, Professor Kirpal said that we all have a role to play.
