Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Sea Asia Conference on Tuesday, Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam announced three main initiatives to boost the local maritime sector. These include the Global Internship Award to fund local undergraduates on maritime-focused internships. MPA plans to set aside S$2 million for this Award. A maritime economics concentration will also be launched at SMU School of Economics in August.
