SMU reaches final of top moot court contest

A team of final-year students from SMU has made it to the final of the world's largest moot court contest. On Saturday, they faced a side from the National Law School of India University, looking for Singapore's fifth triumph at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. The result of the championship round in Washington DC was not available by press time, but getting that far was already an accomplishment for the team of five law students. It was Singapore's first appearance in the final since 2004, despite this being SMU's first time at the competition, having beaten NUS in February's national round. Captain Liu Zhao Xiang said that the team's progress was "really a vindication of all their blood and sweat". If the team manages to bring the trophy back to Singapore, it will end a barren spell that dates back to 2001.
