I'm into football, NOT politics

On the inclusion of footballers Fandi Ahmad and Terry Pathmanathan in an article by the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP), SMU Assistant Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan said: “It’s not so much about the use of footballers but the use of recognisable faces, whom people have a soft spot for. It’s easier to empathise with these faces. In the process, it’s easier for SDP to drive home their message”. But he added it was rather unfair not to seek the footballers’ consent first, saying: “It’s not very ethical to use them to endorse the party’s views without them agreeing to it.”
