A device which changed the lives of 6 billion people

On the 40th anniversary of the mobile phone’s invention on Monday, SMU Assistant Professor of Corporate Communication (Education) Dr Michael Netzley shared his thoughts about how the pros of the mobile phone far outweighed the cons. This was the case even though the invention and popularization of the mobile phone has created social problems alongside the convenience. However, with most of the world population being able to afford mobile phones now, he believed that the situation would eventually balance out. He also predicted that the phone will continue to be an information-rich communication tool, and was certain that it would become a necessity of life in 10 years’ time.
