SIA-Tata JV an 'opportunity lost to graft'

Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus of Tata Group, said in a dialogue at SMU on Friday that the collapse of the SIA-Tata proposed airline-merger deal was an obvious example of how the group had to walk away from an attractive opportunity in India to give way to a "corrupt system". He said that if a company was to fight corruption in India, it would have to be prepared to lose sometimes, and emerge victorious at others. Later during the dialogue with his audience, comprising mostly students, he also spoke about India's economic prospects moving forward.
