Sembawang – Yishun Town Council to split next month

From 1 April, the Sembawang-Yishun Town Council will be split into two so as to better serve both expanding constituencies. SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan said that the main aim for the reorganisation of the Town Council was to smoothen administrative processes so as to serve residents more effectively. He said that due to limited economies of scale, an overly large Town Council would make residents feel that they are not getting the best service. Assistant Prof Tan believed that the Ministry of National Development would address this issue from a forward-looking perspective for more effective management of Town Councils.
