Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong announced on the MParader Facebook page that Acting Minister for Manpower Tan Chuan Jin has taken over the role as anchor minister for Marine Parade GRC. SMU Assistant Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan pointed out that this move marked the renewal of leadership from the second generation to fourth generation of leaders. Amongst the younger generation of politicians, Tan Chuan-Jin is the most publicly acknowledged to have potential for higher office. However, it is still too early to say if ESM Goh Chok Tong would be retiring in the next election. Assistant Prof Tan added that it would be exciting to see how Mr Tan exercises his leadership in Marine Parade, as it bordered the areas of Aljunied and East Coast GRC where the Workers’ Party is active.
