Not enough S'porean faculty members

SMU Assistant Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan said that he was “rather disappointed” by the low numbers of Singaporeans who are faculty members in the country’s four autonomous universities – in particular, those who are on tenure and non-tenure tracks. Senior Minister of State for Education Indranee Rajah said that in NUS and NTU, about one in four faculty members on the tenure track is Singaporean. SMU’s figure is one in six; and SUTD’s figure is one in three. For the non-tenure track, about half of all faculty members in SMU, NUS and NTU are Singaporean, Ms Indranee said. SUTD currently does not have any non-tenure-track faculty members.
