Wage share of GDP rose slightly over 30 years

Minister for Trade and Industry Lim Hng Kiang shared in Parliament that wages made up some 42.5 per cent of Singapore's GDP between 2000 and 2009, up slightly from 41.8 per cent in the 1980s and 41.9 per cent in the 1990s. He was responding to a question by SMU Assistant Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan, who also wanted to know the ratio of labour income to profits from the private sector. Mr Lim said that the ratio of labour income to profits from the private sector were not available, but provided the ratio of wages to all the profits earned by firms.
