Students of Cheng Kung University show Taiwan-style affections through volunteer work in Singapore

A group of students from Taiwan’s Cheng Kung University have warmed the hearts of elderly at a nursing home in Bukit Batok and earned praise for displaying warmth and care towards the aged residents while doing voluntary work there. According to Ms Chen Yi-ru, the group’s coordinator, the members are already performing similar community service back in Taiwan and have decided to progressively extend their service overseas. This initiative began when Ms Chen got to know a group of SMU students who visited Taiwan last year to undertake voluntary work. Under a reciprocal arrangement, the students from Cheng Kung University came to Singapore this year to perform the 11 days of community service at three nursing homes from 21 to 31 January.
