Residents of Punggol East hoped that Lee Li Lian would tackle the issues of high cost of living, rising transportation cost and the delay in Rivervale Plaza renovation works. Some also hoped that Lee would set up a proper office for Meet-the-People Sessions (MPS). SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan commented that it is the Workers’ Party’s style to hold MPS at HDB void decks. However, they would put up temporary partitions so that residents can still highlight their problems to the MP in a private setting.
