Cheers for heartland ‘Ah Lian’

Commenting on the Workers’ Party (WP) victory in the Punggol East by-election, SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan said, “The result adds another feather to WP’s cap. It can walk with more swagger in front of the rest of the opposition as WP has shown that it can sway the ground.” Furthermore, he added that the rise of WP means that it is “well-positioned to make further inroads in the next GE, and naturally, the other opposition parties would be concerned about being overwhelmed by the WP juggernaut.” He also noted that the WP message – that it acts as a check-and-balance to the PAP Government – had gained traction with voters.
