The Workers’ Party (WP) has softened its stance and tone in its message to voters, saying that they should give the ruling party time to work on their shortcomings. SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan commented that based on online discussions, many supporters of the opposition highlighted that WP has not done enough in Parliament. Through its message, the WP is trying to convey that they should not judge its performance too hastily. He said that the message Low Thia Khang wanted to send was clear – that WP is a responsible party, and it puts up reasonable requests in Parliament. Assistant Prof Tan also commented that the People’s Action Party has the upper-hand in this election, and it would be a victory for WP if Lee Li Lian could garner more than 41% of the votes.
