Koh Poh Koon’s campaign slogan: This is me; I don’t need any sympathy votes

Political commentators said that the ‘buy one get one free’ slogan, commonly used by opposition parties in past elections, may not be applicable in the Punggol East by-election. SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan commented that even if Koh Poh Koon lost the contest, he is still likely to be appointed as a grassroot consultant, as the People’s Action Party is unlikely to withdraw from the constituency. Therefore, to voters who desire an opposition voice in Parliament, the ‘buy one get one free’ slogan is still attractive to a certain extent.
