Former Singapore Peoples’ Party (SPP) member Benjamin Pwee has expressed his interest to contest in the by-election as an independent candidate. Commenting on the reasons he cited for throwing his hat into the ring, SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan said that it could be his strategy to set the stage for the 2016 General Elections without raising the ire of Worker’s Party supporters. However, Assistant Prof Tan said that Pwee’s expectations are unrealistic, and candidates should not keep their intention to contest in suspense as there is not a lot of time left to gain the support of voters.
