SMU and Symantec inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) last month to equip students with the latest knowledge and skillsets in information security. SMU Vice Provost (Research) and Dean of the School of Information Systems, Professor Steven Miller commented that the IT industries, including IT security, were not static and always changing. He felt that the schools should play a bigger role in providing students with the ability to adapt to industry changes as well as the principles to guide their future experiences. Professor Miller also highlighted that while Singapore had been proactive in cybersecurity education, the local IT security industry still faces challenges in finding people with the right skills. Under the MoU with Symantec, Professor Miller said that the SMU School of Information Systems will work on core projects around mobility and data, to help students keep up with the latest IT trends and potential security issues.
