Who would the new Speaker be?

On the election of the new Speaker of Parliament, SMU Assistant Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan commented that the appointment would be made in the near future. "Parliament will convene on 14 January. I expect Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to nominate someone for the role a week or two before Parliament convenes, which is any time from 1 January next year…He may also make the announcement by the end of this year (2012)," Assistant Prof Tan said. He expected the candidate to be someone familiar with standing orders.
