PM Lee: Voters and the nation are most important

SMU Assistant Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan said that PM Lee’s comments following Michael Palmer’s resignation was an indication that a by-election would not be called any time soon. The Prime Minister is in no rush to fill the seat as Punggol East falls under PAP’s control. The High Court also ruled that the Prime Minister has the discretion to decide whether and when to call by-elections. However, an appeal has been filed against the High Court’s ruling, and Assistant Prof Tan said that it remains to be seen if this would affect Punggol East’s by-election.
