The pioneer cohort in SMU’s inaugural Management Development Programme (MDP) recently completed a lively four-day management development workshop.
Between 29 October and 1 November 2012, the batch of Deputy and Associate Directors reviewed case studies of organisations undergoing the turmoil of change, further case studies of poor service and coaching practices, 3M’s model for innovation, discussed how trust is earned in different cultures, took a crash course in reading financial reports, and much more.
Complementing the workshop were group projects that enabled participants to ‘integrate the pieces’ from the workshop and to apply the knowledge acquired to tackle specific challenges in SMU. Participants formed into smaller groups for the projects, with HODs as project sponsors.
At the time of writing, the participants are preparing for the final sprint to the MDP finish line – the project proposal presentations to Management on 17 January, 2013. That will conclude the MDP journey for this pioneer batch, paving the way for the next batch of participants in early 2013.
