At the launch of his book Chinese Identity in Post-Suharto Indonesia: Culture, Politics and Media, SMU Assistant Professor of Asian Studies Hoon Chang Yau highlighted the importance of fostering an identity, whether ethnic or religious. He stressed that the key was not to avoid interethnic relations or resolve such differences, but to live with them.
