With over 200 partner organisations and more than half of SMU students surpassing the mandatory 80 hours of community service, SMU is dedicated to encouraging our students to carry out community service initiatives that incorporate elements of sustainability.
In recognition of our efforts, SMU has been conferred the 7th Ten Accomplished Youth Organisations in ASEAN (TAYO ASEAN) Award 2012. This award is recognised by the ASEAN Member States and winners are nominated and selected by the National Youth Focal Point from each ASEAN Member State. The National Youth Council (NYC) serves as the national youth focal point for Singapore.
“We are very honoured to receive this award, especially since all recipients have been selected based on the impact of their projects to the community, innovativeness, sustainability and probability of the project duplication. SMU, being a leading business and management university in the region, is committed to making an impact on our students by nurturing the spirit of volunteerism and social responsibility, as part of SMU’s holistic education, and in developing them into socially conscious business leaders and responsible global citizens,” said Ms Emily Hogan, Assistant Director, SMU Centre for Social Responsibility, who was in Thailand to receive the award on behalf of SMU.
