SMU Associate Professor of Psychology Norman Li and PhD student Jose Yong discussed their research. They had participants handle and count either a large amount of money (52 S$50 notes ~ USD$2,100), a small amount of money (52 S$2 notes ~ USD$84), or blank paper (52 sheets) and found that men who handled and counted the large sum of money reported significantly higher minimum requirements for a date. In particular, men who came in contact with a large amount of cash wanted a more physically attractive woman.
