The Workers' Party (WP) has announced the new office-holders of its Central Executive Council (CEC). Three of the WP's elected Members of Parliament (MPs), including Aljunied GRC MP Chen Show Mao and Hougang MP Png Eng Huat, do not hold any positions within the CEC. Political analyst and SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan commented that the WP is clearly in no hurry to identify the next generation of leaders. He was of the opinion that this was the right strategy, as the Party is still developing the team. Responsibilities can thus be shared and there is no need to highlight any particular member. With regards to Aljunied GRC MP Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap’s new appointment as the president of the Youth Wing, Assistant Prof Tan said that the move could illustrate the Party’s recognition of the minority race.
