The higher education landscape of Singapore is set to become more diversified in the future, as the number of local universities will increase to six with the addition of the SIT and UniSIM as the country's fifth and sixth universities. The proportion of each cohort making it to university will increase from 27 per cent currently to 40 per cent by 2020. The two new universities will help to boost the current full-time university intake by a total of 3,000 students per year by 2020, from 13,000 students at present to 16,000 in eight years' time. SIT and UniSIM will also complement SMU, NUS and NTU in enriching the tertiary education landscape here and in nurturing more talents in various fields for Singapore.
