SMU Visiting Professor of Asian Studies Kevin Hewison said that the Red Shirts were referencing the 1932 event – when the absolute monarchy was overthrown – and the ideas of democracy and the people's participation, and that they would use this rally to display the strength of the Red Shirts and try to push back the Constitutional Court.
