MP Hri Kumar Nair has argued for more flexibility in sentencing, after Dr Woffles Wu was fined S$1,000 for abetting an employee in providing misleading information to the police. SMU Assistant Professor of Law Jack Tsen-Ta Lee said Mr Nair's idea was “interesting” and that clearly specified alternative punishments related to offences would be a “stronger disincentive” to potential offenders and would send a clearer message to the wider public.
