SMU Assistant Law Professor Eugene Tan said that he was unconvinced by Png Eng Huat's explanation for the anonymous letter that was circulated online. He commented that the Worker's Party understands the gravity of the breach of trust in this situation, but is unable to provide a convincing reply. He also questioned Low Thia Kiang's intention of making the explanation public in the rally and not taking media interviews on this issue. The letter was circulated online displaying the results of a secret vote by the party's central executive committee for the NCMP position upon the decline by Png to participate in the running for the Non-Constituency Member of Parliament Scheme (NCMP). According to the letter, Png only garnered one vote, while the other two candidates received five and seven votes respectively.
