SMU Assistant Law Professor Eugene Tan is of the opinion that when a party grows, the executive committee needs to strike a balance between the renewal of the party and placing importance on the old guards' contributions over the years. He was commenting on the recent incidents surrounding the Workers' Party. He said that if all important decisions are only made through committee members' votes, then senior members might not be in support. ?In the future, the Workers' Party could explore how to effectively communicate with their members and provide clear reasons for why they were not selected for important posts within the party. At the same time, they should remind members that to participate in politics, Singaporeans' benefits should always come before personal gains.?
