SMU Assistant Professor Eugene Tan commented that both parties must achieve a good balance between local and national issues in their debate and not assume that these issues can be treated as separate. He added that some Hougang voters may want to use this by-election opportunity to let the ruling party ?hear' them. It's important that the parties have their feelers on the ground in order to best understand the topics that matter to the voters.
