Singapore's Elections Department has issued Political Donation Certificates to four prospective candidates, including Dr Poh Lee Guan who has not declared his intention to run in the May 26 by-election. SMU Assistant Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan said Dr Poh's candidacy would confuse voters as, only one candidate will be allowed to use the Workers' Party symbol, and it would appear that Mr Png Eng Huat is the candidate for the Workers' Party. That means Dr Poh Lee Guan would have to find an alternative vehicle to contest if he wants to contest in the Hougang by-election.
