Political observers predict that WP will concentrate on winning the votes of the elderly, while PAP will try to attract votes from the younger voters. SMU Assistant Law Professor Eugene Tan said that, for the past 20 years, voters who are 40 years old and above are more supportive of WP and Low Thia Kiang. In addition, Png Eng Huat's style of listening to voters' needs attentively would probably more popular among the elderly residents. He thinks that younger voters might be more interested in letting their property appreciate in value and this would be advantageous to PAP. However, he is of the opinion that for any one party to win, they have to fight for all the votes they can get and not targeted at specific age groups. This way, no particular age group will feel discriminated against.
