Minister of State for Education Lawrence Wong gives practice-oriented direction the thumbs up after visiting several tertiary institutions in the US last week. If Singapore goes ahead with a fifth university, it is likely to be a practice-oriented one closely linked to industry and offering programmes that combine work and study. Mr Wong noted that each time the Government expanded the university sector, it had come up with a new high-quality model like SMU which introduces seminar-style teaching used in US schools while SUTD has a science and tech focus but with design as its central theme.
