Associate Professor of Law Henry Gao outlined the pitfalls of trading with China, especially after China joined the WTO. Prof Henry Gao is also the Dongfang Scholar Chair Professor at the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade. With law degrees from China, the UK and US, he has worked at the WTO Secretariat in Geneva and has been consulted on trade issues by the World Bank, Apec, ADB, the Asean Secretariat and governments of various countries, including China. In this column, Prof Gao highlights that there have been many problems with the Chinese trade regulatory framework which have a significant impact on foreign firms trading with the country.
