A sculpture-filled garden at the National Library Building on Victoria Street, once visible only through glass panels, was officially launched yesterday. The Bamboo Garden is home to specially commissio.ed sculptures by veteran Singapore sculptor Chong Fah Cheong, set against a wall of striking red bricks that were salvaged from the iconic old National Library on Stamford Road. When the library was demolished in 2004, its red bricks went on sale for $10 each and SMU incorporated 1,000 of those bricks into a wall on its campus.
