A netizen who claimed to be an NUS Scholar in the NUS Law Faculty doing a double degree, was criticized for segmenting Singapore undergraduates into four tiers. In his views, those who received a scholarship to study at top universities overseas belong to the top tier in the intellectual hierarchy; while those with a single degree from a local university are ranked the lowest. Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan shared that this is an over-simplified and narrow way of thinking. He has seen bright students from schools other than the medical and law faculties/schools and pointed out that selecting a degree to pursue is really a personal choice.
